Santa Ana Green

Are you interested in combating global warming and other environmental catastrophes? Are you the type of person who goes out of her way to buy organic diapers and other eco friendly items because you believe just one person can make a difference? If you are, it is likely that green initiatives at all levels of government are important to you. Well, if you live on a piece of Santa Ana CA real estate, you will be delighted to find out that this is one city where green living is taken very seriously.

The city of Santa Ana has at least a half a dozen different initiatives in place to encourage greener living and environmentally sound practices. Some of these programs not only help out the environment, but can really save local residents a lot of money as well. A good example is the recent switch of the city to a water treatment chemical supplier who not only offers cheaper products, but much more environmentally friendly ones to boot. Not a small feat, considering the fact most people think going green means spending more money!

One of the longest running of the eco friendly programs offered by the city is the energy efficiency initiative. This is a partnership between the city and residents which seeks to reduce the amount of electricity and other forms of energy used by citizens and civic buildings alike every year. There are services offered which pick up old appliances, workshops detailing how an on demand hot water heater can reduce your bill and help the environment, and discounted retro fits for small business lighting. The city uses this program to save people money, to save the city money, and to help grow small businesses too.

One of the most popular of the Santa Ana Green initiatives is the Tree Program. Santa Ana wants to be known as Tree City USA, acknowledged for its efforts at planting and maintaining these important parts of our ecosystem. The city employs several people who go out and use hand garden tools to plant and maintain several species of trees growing on city land.

Build green initiatives also encourage businesses and home owners to think green when they put up a new building. Tax breaks are given for the use of the latest strainers and other types of equipment which help preserve water and lessen its use.
